What an NFRC Label Tells You
NFRC certification helps buyers compare the rated energy performance of a specific fenestration product. Common label values include U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient, visible transmittance, air leakage, and condensation-related ratings.
The label is not a general quality score. A lower or higher value is desirable only in relation to the project climate, glass area, orientation, and energy specification.
What ENERGY STAR Does—and Does Not—Mean
ENERGY STAR qualification uses performance criteria that vary by climate zone and product type. The current residential window, door, and skylight criteria use NFRC-certified values for U-factor and, where applicable, SHGC.
ENERGY STAR does not replace structural, water, safety, installation, permit, or local-code requirements.
